With still a question mark on the seats for the panel of judges on American Idol, we know Mariah Carey is to be a confirmed American Idol judge for season 12. The question remains ‘who else?’.
Fox recently announced that Mariah Carey would be joining the American Idol judges for this year’s upcoming season, but the rest of the judges spots have not been solidified. With both Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler leaving the show, there is still another available spot at the judges’ table. S2S Magazine reports Toni Braxton may be the next to join the cast of Idol.

American Idol” might be making history by having not one, but two Black judges in its upcoming season.
The most recent casting rumor has singer and reality star Toni Braxton taking the place of exiting judge Steven Tyler. If Toni joins the lineup alongside newly announced judge Mariah Carey, this will be the first time ever that there have been two Black women judging as regulars on the series.
S2 reports:
An insider who works for Simon Cowell claims producers were less than discreet when discussing the newest addition to the judging panel and plans to add Toni were overheard. The news has yet to be confirmed.
“When I overheard the producers during a candid conversation regarding having two Black, female judges for the first in the history of the show, I almost jumped out of my skin,” the insider said in an email. “To add to what was already internal pandemonium, I overheard them say that Toni Braxton was replacing Steven Tyler.”
Toni has hit the “Idol” stage before, having performed on the show before with season 5 winner Taylor Hicks, and now fans may get to see how she is when the tables are turned.
Neither Fox, nor Toni, have commented on the rumors yet.

I must admit I am a bit confused why there should be any fuss about 2 black ladies on the judging panel. I know TV has a dynamic that is tried and testeed and certain formulas appeal to the widest number of viewers, but this seems a bit over hyped to me.
I would more suggest that there should be more of a hullaballoo about 2 absolutely awesome singers being on the judging panel together – and both being gorgeous females at the same time – should also be something to sqwark about.
Let’s see. Mariah and Toni would make for interesting judging and coaching of the ‘I want to become a famous singer‘ wannabe’s.
